About Me

Defining me would be something like a complex protein chemical formula. But all I would say - I am like a viscous liquid who will snuggly fit into any form of a vessel so to speak.

Honesty still exists!!

Parked my car, paid the parking fees, and was almost entering the restaurant when I got a tap on my shoulder. It was the same parking guy who came running from the parking lot to inform me that one of my car windows was still rolled down. I guess I will now curse the logo thieves a little less.

In search of the Bong connection

Whenever I travel back to Kolkata, it always greets me with a damp weather and Hindi.
Hindi!! Yes you saw it right – Hindi is generally what I hear spoken to me, to a Bengali, at the heart of Bengali literature and culture…It feels strange and amusing when I step out of the airport every time, I hear a “Bhaayia kaahan jaana hain?” or a “Udhar jao”…Huh! How do I make myself look more Bong??

Where are we…

A star named VY Canis Majoris is almost 2000 times the size of sun. If placed in the solar system it will even engulf Saturn. Sun is 10 times the size of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. When the comet Shoemaker-Levy collided with Jupiter the blast area was as big as that of earth. And we? How small are we compared to the endless oceans?

The frowning camel, the grumbling “Eliphent” and “Thebugger”

All of the story is supposedly based on the events that were almost true and/or are destined to be true in some future date as per the calendar from a certain extinct civilization.
It is about the three, the three devils as they call themselves. There are men. There are women. And then there are the devils - the Good Devil, the Bad Devil and the Ugly Devil

Perfect day!!!

Reading an engrossing fast paced novel on a laid back pleasant Indian winter day on the roof….What else is bliss? Other than of course sitting on an unknown secluded chalk cliff overlooking the English Channel…

The one and only "Kashor"

Eureka!!Eureka!! I have finally, finally discovered that I can play at least ONE musical instrument. What if it is a simple rounded black metallic plate? What even if we have utter confusion distinguishing it between percussion, string or wind? What even if it does not require great musical character to play the primitive device?
But it creates music after all. Rather the accompanying music during deity worship in India along with the blaring drum beats. Highly neglected and not even finds a reference in Oxford, its none other than our very own “Kashor”.
The key to playing it – Wield the stick and hit the metal in some form of rhythm. Don’t worry even if it is out of rhythm as people would hardly take notice :)

Etched in memory

I was returning to Pune after a long enjoyable vacation in Kolkata. There was this security officer who was frisking me at the Kolkata airport. Unlike the tradition he asked me how my Puja vacation was. Amazed I too inquired about his past few days. He answered – “Hamara kya, baas aapke seva main hain”. Translated into English – “What of us, we are here for your service”. I managed only a foolish grin as an acknowledgement.
